i propose the overall composition.i have also written in this but the extraction for making final form will be more conceivable.
sorry for not making in 3D data. i'll try to make as soon as possible that can easier to understand the meaning of this.
sorry my sketch is kind a messy handwriting...
i'll explain more if there is something that cant be understood.

design development of group X

From minori's work and ioanna's introduction of negative/positive projects, I made one idea.
The idea is, to make negative spaces change in each sheet, drawn in right part, which is partially inspired ESCHER pattern.
And for TRANSFORMATION, I think we can change the arrangement of sheets, when we construct it.

proposal 28/02/2011

this proposal might be some kinds of rules
to construct the general form.
keisuke's sketch(uploaded last time) helped
me make this proposal.
the bit was written in rectangle, but it can be any kind of shapes ,and that might make more interesting form.

Negative Space Project

The last comment by Naruki about negative space reminded me of this project, Mafoombey Acoustic Space by Martii Kalliala & Esa Ruskeepaa Mafoombey Acoustic Space – Martti Kalliala & Esa RuskeepääIt is quite a fun project, keeping a cube in the outside and a more organic shape in the inside. The disadvantages of this project though is that it uses an excessive amount of cardboard and there is really no transformability.

Pushing Volume to its Edge
http://elif-erdine.com/?p=40This image can be a good reference for Group X, to make its whole space composition.
When we use square for its outline as Minori proposed in the first phase, we have to make negative(void) space in it. This case, the letter "X" is negative space, and we can sit there and enjoy tea ceremony.

FRACTAL
Concerning the fractal in the sheets of my report, I want to add some theoretical ideas.
The fractal pattern is made of the same forms (ex. triangle, square etc...) , but just the size is different.
If we use triangle, it it like a Sierpinski Triangle(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierpinski_triangle)which is used in the sunshade shown in my first sheet.
When you use squares, you'll get a Sierpinski Carpet(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierpinski_carpet) which is used in the Menger Sponge(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menger_sponge)and the Photonic Fractal shown in my second sheet.
In both, and generally speaking the fractal pattern can be get by dividing a big form in the same algorithm.

We'll can also use this pattern or concept to make cutting patterns, the whole space concept etc...
Could you give me some ideas concerning this issue?
ESCHER

With Mr. Toyoda's advice, and after the discussion among 4 Japanese students, I suppose ESCHER's work might give us some inspirations, as cutting patterns.
In this project, as we heard from tutors, we don't have to make many uniform patterns, but each of them can be varied, and in a sheet, positive/negative patterns of each jointing parts can be change gradually, for example from simple to complex or small to large etc...
What do you think of this idea?

week 2 Comments
Dear members,
Good works! We are pleased to see your ideas are coming. Potentially this week is going to be the last week so be ready.. Following are some comments for this week. They are divided into three groups but I would suggest everybody to read all the comments since everything is related to what you are doing right now. Please remember to have many discussion as possible within groups and within team. And post your proposal to the blog (as much as possible) till this weekend.
[Group X]
It's good that you now have the idea what the basic elements for teahouse are. Now that you know what you would need to make teahouse you really need to come up with compositional system for making space and how you are going to apply the research idea from group Z and joinery detail from team Y using the system you have come up with. You should first focus on group Z's research result to see which existing system seems to suits best for this project. In order to do that you have to have a close discussion with Naruki in group Z asap so that you can get the theoritical / mathematical idea and potential of that system. Then what you could do next is to pick up some segments of that system which coud have a potential to be a teahouse. In other words if you pick up different segment it could be not just teahouse but for exapmles it could be bathroom, dog house, garage...etc. Please see the attached sketch for your reference as an example. You really need to consider that all groups idea has to be combined into one piece till this weekend.
Also you need to come up with how you are going to have transforming. It is also a issue for joinery detail so you need to make a discussion with group Y about this.

Swarm Intelligence http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swarm_intelligence
[Group Y]
The mounting solutions you have shown are simple which is great. And the example you show (longitudinal joint) is great in terms of interlocking system. It might be hard to apply exactly the same system to this project but If you could apply the idea of this interlocking system to your base idea that'll be much better in terms of structural issue and composition.
Since you have to apply this joinery system to group X's teahouse composition, you have to have some discussions with group X so that you can brush up the detail. Each joinery could be uniformed, it could have several types or sizes of joinery, or each joinery detail could be different. Please also discuss about the tranformation with group X how you could use this joinery without any waste when transformed.
Please remember that joinery details are most crucial when actually constructing the structure so you need to come up with several options so that you can test them with the lasercut mock-ups. And please be reminded that the cutting result of usign lasercutter and CNC router is different. For example you need to set some tolerance for your cutting line in CAD when you are doing cut with the lasercutter since the laser it self has some thickness. It is possible to have cut with square edges with lasercutter but you got curved edge if you used CNC router. If any of you in this team (including members in team X and Z) have any experience using lasercutter or CNC router please share the information with others what you need to be careful about using those machines.
[Group Z]
I see that you have done a research on fractal system which is a good start. Though, just showing visual images what it looks like or how it's been used isn't enough if group X and group Y really wanted to use what you have found out other than presentation. You have to show several system (things like I have listed above) with it's spatial rules (diagrams, calculating formula, computational expression using something like processing...etc), You have to show how you can deform its space with what kind of parameters. And this has to be done really quick at least in two days so that members can refer to it. Please try to have as much discussion as possible with other groups with what you have got to share the details.
